Using BeFunky.com, I created my print-based promotion for Netflix, as a follow up to my video-based one.
As well as this, it also promotes the World Health Organization's Covid-19 guidelines. I included key messages as well as important information - I also followed the brief I set myself when planning it (included in my pre-production).
Here is my promotion-
This is the software I used to make the product;
Pre-production...
And here are the steps I took to make the ad (production steps only)-
- Google (To do some secondary research [Netflix's legal info, they're target audience, values etc. and also WHO's Covid-19 messages and tagline)
- Netflix (To do some primary research [such as which shows are the most popular, they're tagline etc.)
Production...
- BeFunky Online Video Editor
- Google Images (To get the logos and background)
1. Gathering and saving photos from Google Images
I just typed in 'Netflix logo png' and 'WHO logo' for the logos and 'things to watch on Netflix, Easter 2020' (for the background image) into Google Images. I then saved them into 'Downloads' so that they where ready to use once I needed them.
2. Creating a blank template in BeFunky
By clicking 'Create' and then clicking on 'Graphic Designer', a menu came up to customise the template size, colour, etc.
I chose an ambient gray colour (#a6a6a6 is the hex code) and set the size to '2560 x 1400 pixel resolution' and then I clicked 'Apply' and was ready to use the template for my print promotion - the size '2560 x 1400' is a common landscape size for billboards, livery etc. and so I used it so it would be the most suitable and compatible size.
3. Importing the photos into BeFunky as 'Graphics'
By clicking on the 'Graphics' menu and clicking 'add your own', I uploaded the logos (Netflix and WHO) and background image into BeFunky.
These where now ready to utilise in the 'Graphics' menu.
4. Rearranging and resising the photos using the handles and 'drag and drop' tools
For the logos, I placed them in their respective places, then resized them using the handles (mainly the corner handles).
Next, for the background, I placed it over the entire page and moved it to the 'back layer' using the 'move backwards' button - then, using the 'Opacity' tool, I decreased the opacity down by 60%, making it a faded background, which makes the content itself easier to read and understand.
5. Adding text boxes using the 'Text' [T] tool
I clicked and dragged the boxes, after selecting the 'text' tool, and I created 6 different boxes - one for each line, which I planned on the mind map I did.
6. Customising the fonts…
The customise font window appears on the left hand side of the app once you've added the text box - I planned to use colours based on the Netflix interface and theme, as well as colours which would stand out among the background…
There is emphasis on the 'Public Service Announcement' line to grasp the viewers attention - the outline yellow to show that it is serious, with the black fill to make it appear bolder.
The 'See What's Next' tagline is a trademark of Netflix and I made this appear larger to make it more noticeable and 'rememberable' to the viewer, this is also a way of raising brand awareness by repeating the same tagline over and over.
The 'tags' ('Covid19' and 'Quarantine') would be helpful as people would share the ad via social media using the hashtags mentioned, the overall mono text theme makes it much easier to read, as well as the contrast between the background and foreground.
*Also, the 'Parody by Tom W' is to watermark the product and show this is not a genuine commercial by Netflix and WHO.
7. Exporting and uploading to Blogger as a JPEG file
I saved this file and then clicked on the 'image' button in the Blogger editing area - I uploaded the image and it was ready to be viewed by my teacher.
