An example of a company breaching the TV regulations for promoting a product

The commercial for It:Chapter Two was played before a children's movie in the cinema, which was Frozen 2, in Exeter.
The children were horrified by the trailer - it contained adult humor as well as a a gory theme, with realistic gore violence. This left children traumatised and confused - the cinema apologised for the screening, which was only suitable for 15's (under 15's require an adult with them) screenings, whereas Frozen 2 is aimed at U (universal).
This is a clear example of when the law is breached - the feature film being played on screen was aimed at a young audience (mostly young children), whereas It:Chapter Two is aimed at teenagers and above.
These where the exact laws that where breached;
- Contained unsuitable content for children (violence, cursive language, adult theme, gore and alcohol/drug usage)
- Meant for 15 and above
- This means that the Advertising Standard Agency (ASA) have the right to press charges, penalties and punishments to the cinema and the parents could also potentially do the same for having their children exposed to the graphic content.
The role of institutions such as the ASA is to ensure the safety and welfare of the audiences which may be vulnerable
