4 (Woman's) Magazines
I have been asked to create a post on 4 woman's magazine covers - analyzing the overall appearance and purposes of their designs.
VOGUE Magazines (New York and Madrid)
Summary: Vogue is targeted mainly at a female/feminine audience between the ages of 20 to 40 years old. The use of secondary colors and an old-fashioned theme shows that this particular edition has been aimed at an older audience, with traditional styles of clothing and fabrics. The woman on the front cover, how ever, is clearly young and this shows that they are trying to promote older-fashioned clothing to a younger audience.
Woman's Health
Summary: Woman's Health is aimed at all female adults - it is all about lifestyle choices and fashion statements. In addition, it includes information on diet, exercise and mental well-being, as well as quotes/sections on celebrity role-models. The use of primary colors and an overall bright theme shows that they are all about a happy, healthy lifestyle and approach to living.
Cosmopolitan
Summary: Cosmopolitan is aimed at 18-34 year old women. They, however, focus more on attitude and personality rather than age limits etc. The use of YouTube star "Emma Chamberlain" on the cover shows that they are trying to promote her sense of fashion as well as "tend" to her subscriber base. In addition, the language used on the cover, via the captions, is trendy and up-to-date, showing that they are all about keeping with the times.
Vanity Fair
Summary: Vanity Fair is taking a different approach to their target audiences than the other three - they discuss topics such as celebrity news and fashion trends but package this in a more conventional, older-fashioned magazine design. The lack of color in the background shows that this more for an older female audience, rather than a younger one who seem to like colorful images and content.
